Plate Heat Exchanger Price In 2026: What Drives The Cost

ROTER does not publish a fixed price list, because plate heat exchanger cost is driven by five variables — core area (m²), core type (sensible vs total), aluminium foil thickness, airflow and static pressure, and frame material. For most commercial cross-flow or counter-flow units the order of magnitude is a few hundred to a few thousand USD per unit depending on core area; the fastest way to a real number is to send us the airflow and static pressure and we will return a specification and quotation within 24 hours.

What determines the price of a plate heat exchanger?

A plate heat exchanger is not a catalogue item in the way a valve or a filter is. The price is assembled from the core specification and the frame around it. Below is the breakdown, with the parameters that actually move the number.

Plate heat exchanger price drivers

Factor Specification options Effect on price Typical buyer decision
Core area (m²) Determined by airflow and face velocity Highest single driver. Roughly proportional to cost Fix airflow first; the core area follows
Core type Sensible (aluminium foil) / Total heat (heat exchange paper) Total heat core costs more per m² Total heat if latent load matters; sensible if the exhaust stream is already dry
Foil thickness 0.04 mm / 0.05 mm / 0.06 mm aluminium foil Linear, relatively small Thicker foil for higher pressure or corrosive duty
Surface treatment Standard hydrophilic / epoxy-coated Moderate increase Epoxy coating for coastal, chemical or high-humidity corrosive exhaust
Airflow (m³/h) See published range 1,000–15,000 m³/h for CXH series Drives core area and frame size The first number you should fix
Static pressure (Pa) 120–400 Pa published across the CXH range Higher pressure requires a heavier frame and more support Match the system design, not the maximum
Heat type recovered Sensible / total / cross counter-flow Cross counter-flow and total cost more See the ERV vs HRV comparison
Frame / casing Galvanised steel, stainless steel, or painted steel Stainless is the largest non-core increase Stainless only where the environment demands it

Published specification data you can price against

These are the published performance figures for ROTER's ceiling-mounted total heat recovery range. Use them to establish which model fits your duty before asking for a price — it shortens the quotation cycle considerably.

Test conditions (GB/T 21087): summer — outdoor dry bulb 33°C, RH 80%; indoor dry bulb 26°C, RH 50%. Winter — outdoor dry bulb 0°C, RH 30%; indoor dry bulb 20°C, RH 60%. Fresh airflow equals exhaust airflow equals rated airflow. If operating conditions differ, actual efficiency may fall outside the stated range. For reference only.

What we need from you to quote

A quotation needs five inputs. Send them in any format — a drawing, a schedule or a plain email is fine.

Airflow — supply and exhaust airflow in m³/h

Static pressure — design point in Pa

Core type — sensible or total heat; if total, the moisture load and target supply humidity

Exhaust conditions — temperature, humidity and any corrosive or particulate content

Installation — ceiling mounted, wall mounted or ducted; and the supply air set point

With those five, ROTER returns a sizing calculation, a model selection, the efficiency calculated at your actual conditions rather than the catalogue condition, and a quotation — normally within 24 hours. Full details of the core options are on the plate heat exchanger page, and the published performance data for every series is collected on the specification tables page.

Commercial terms for export orders

Typical terms — confirm against your specific order

Minimum order quantity One unit for catalogue models; project quantity quoted individually

Terms above are the standard commercial framework, not a quote. The binding figures are always the ones in your quotation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a plate heat exchanger cost?

There is no single price, because cost is dominated by core area, which is in turn set by airflow and face velocity. As a rough order of magnitude for commercial cross-flow, counter-flow and cross counter-flow units, most projects land in the range of a few hundred to a few thousand USD per unit. The only reliable figure is one calculated against your airflow, static pressure and core type — send us those three and we will return a quotation within 24 hours.

Why do you not publish a price list online?

Because the same model designation can be built with different core areas, foil thicknesses and frame materials, and a published list would either be misleading or so conservative it would be useless for budgeting. Publishing the specification data and the price drivers lets you model the budget yourself and lets us quote accurately.

Is a plate heat exchanger cheaper than a rotary heat exchanger?

Generally yes on capital cost, because a plate core has no motor, no drive belt and no rotor to service. But the comparison is not simply price: a rotary exchanger (ROT-HRW wheel) handles higher duct static pressure, tolerates exhaust temperatures up to 300°C with the ECW rotor, and suits larger ductwork. If you are replacing a heat exchanger for an industrial exhaust, compare on duty, not on unit price.

What is the difference between a sensible and a total heat plate exchanger?

A sensible heat exchanger transfers temperature only, using hydrophilic aluminium foil. A total heat exchanger also transfers moisture, using heat exchange paper made of specialty fibres with gaps so small that only small-diameter water vapour molecules pass through. Total heat exchangers cost more per square metre but reduce the latent load that the air-conditioning system has to remove.

Do you supply samples or a single unit for evaluation?

Yes. Catalogue models can be supplied as a single unit with the published test data for that model, so you can verify the performance against your own installation before committing to a project quantity.

How long does a plate heat exchanger last and what maintenance does it need?

A plate heat exchanger has no moving parts, so routine maintenance is limited to filter replacement and periodic inspection of the core for fouling. The sensible core uses hydrophilic aluminium foil of 0.1–0.2 mm thickness; epoxy- coated foil is available where the exhaust stream is corrosive.

Can you quote to a European or US standard rather than GB?

Yes. The published efficiency figures are stated at GB/T 21087 conditions, and we can also provide the equivalent calculation at EN 308, EN 16798-3 or ASHRAE 220 conditions, together with the relevant test report and CE documentation, so the unit can be specified into a Western submittal package.

What is the minimum order and what are the lead times?

Catalogue models can be ordered as single units; project quantities are quoted individually. Lead time is confirmed in the quotation against the current production load. Standard terms are T/T with a deposit against shipping documents, and EXW, FOB Wuxi, CIF or DDP as required. See the contact page to submit an inquiry.
